Primo messaggio! / First Post!

Italiano in nero. English in blue.

Sono quasi 4 mesi che siamo a New York (senza contare i 5 anni a Ginevra!) ed era un po' che Sarah e io pensavamo di creare un diario blog per raccontare a parenti e amici gli affari nostri che, seppur poco interessanti di per se, rischiano di incuriosire qualche nostro caro amico o parente.

Dopo 3 ore passate a cercare un nome disponibile per il blog, ci siamo fermati a RicorDini che ci sembrava decente: con un doppio senso (vedi sottotitolo sopra) e include la parola Dini. Solo dopo ci siamo accorti che di solito si usa per le foto dei morti... Ma ormai era troppo tardi quindi AMEN.

We've been in New York for almost 4 months (plus of course the 5 years we were in Geneva!) so this is long overdue.  We'd been playing with the idea of creating a blog for quite some time, to share some of our exciting (and also, not-so-exciting) experiences with family and friends. 


After 3 hours of hunting for an available name for the blog, we settled on RicorDini which means memories or souvenirs in Italian and obviously includes our name!  Unfortunately, it also has a colloquial meaning: the little "gifts" that your dog might leave for you. Even more unfortunate: We later realized that it often refers to the memorial cards distributed at funerals... Oops!   

Avendo ormai perso il conto di chi ha sentito quale storia, d'ora in poi rimanderemo tutti su questo blog per conoscere le ultime notizie. Niente più Facebook, email, Skype, chat, Whatsapp, telefono, SMS, etc.

Quindi:

• Nonne, se volete seguire i vostri nipoti è ora che vi comprate un computer con internet.
• Genitori, è ora che imparate a usare il computer come si deve.
• Fratelli, sorelle, cugini e amici, è ora che vi staccate da Facebook e iniziate a usare qualche prodotto di Google (come Blogger e Google+) che ci da il pane da vivere.

We've often lost count of who's heard what piece of gossip, so from now on we'll refer everybody to this blog to hear about our latest news.  No more messanger, email, phone calls, etc etc.  People: it's time to quit Facebook and start using the Google products (Gchat, Blogger and Google+) which bankroll NYC lifestyle!

Sicuramente ci passerà la voglia dopo due settimane... ma per ora rimaniamo illusi con l'idea di aver abbastanza tempo e dedizione per poter mantenere un blog come questo!

We'll probably get tired of this in a couple weeks... but for now we're deluded enough to think that we'll have enough time and motivation to maintain this blog!

Vista la fatica necessaria per scrivere questi messaggi e la sfortuna di aver sposato una persona di un' altra lingua e quindi di avere famiglie e amici che non si parlano tra loro,  sia io che Hannah Sarah scriveremo solo nella propria lingua, poi useremo il mitico Google Traduttore per tradurre il tutto nell'altra lingua. Quindi se leggete cose sgrammaticate, ovviamente non siamo noi che ci siamo dimenticati come si scrive, ma è il traduttore di Google che ha sbagliato (non che sbagli spesso! Google è perfetto!).

Given the effort required to write these posts and the misfortune of marrying a person of another language and to have families and friends who do not talk to each other, Hannah Sarah and I will each write in our own languages and then use the glorious Google Translator tool to translate our posts into the other language. So in case you read things that are ungrammatical, trust that it's not our illiteracy but rather machine-generated errors (which won't happen often... Google is perfect!).
